Night in black and white

For some,

life went on exactly

one year on.

Publicly transported

to a palace of grand gestures.

Monument to long-gone drinkers.

Forgotten corner of Englishness,

Crowded now by a wider-world.

That night when

the talk was as cheap

as the next round.

Insights spoken-out aloud

as profound as only booze allows.

Life seen through a glass’ end

Could all be captured by another lens?

Beneath our feet

flowed pungent yellow streams.

Final fate for a sunken pint.

Unseen by glazed Oriental sight

Cast floor-wards in slurred response.

Over-seen by sharp-mouthed youth

Her statement skin and Down-under views.
